Teachers that love their jobs are always loathe to leave them, even temporarily in order to procure more training, so the online masters education is a great option for them.

A BA or BS and a teaching credential are the minimum qualifications for a teacher in the US. This takes at best, four years, and often up to six. Adding a masters degree adds at least a year, maybe more to the timeline. For various reasons, related to money and other issues, some people decide to just take the credential and get a job.

After leaving college and getting a job, the chances of returning to school go way down, according to statistics. This makes sense, since having a regular income and not having to rely on penny pinching, loans, and grants is addictive, in a way. Also, people who like their job don’t want to leave it, necessarily, in order to procure a higher degree.

This is just what online degrees were created for, though. People who don’t want to leave work can still study and receive a higher education, and they can often go part-time, and even have their employers foot the bill. There are many different programs to choose from, at this point, too.

Usually, an increased salary comes with a masters degree, so this can sometimes be the motivation behind pursuing this degree. Often, however, the motive is simply to be a better teacher. Either way, it is easier to do now than it was before the internet, and the variety of programs of study are much wider now than they were even five years ago.

Most people who are teachers have become such because they love it. Teaching has its rewards, but it also has a lot of downsides– long hours, low pay, a lot of bureaucracy and many rules that not everyone agrees on. Plus, frustration resulting from students not working hard, and other similar situations. So mostly, teachers are teachers because they love it.

If you are one of the dedicated people who enjoys knowing that you have an effect on the next generation, getting your next degree online will allow you to get paid more without leaving the job that you love. And there’s no need to compromise– there are so many schools out there offering this degree nowadays that you can surely find one that has everything you need.

Find Out more to do with online masters education! See Janet Roth’s internet site where you can easily figure out a lot more info on what your very first strategies need to be for you to find the best possible place to get started in your online masters education.

Getting Your Degree Online Is Easier Than Ever With New Technology! http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/getting-your-degree-online-is-easier-than-ever-with-new-technology/ http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/getting-your-degree-online-is-easier-than-ever-with-new-technology/#comments Wed, 30 Jun 2010 13:00:43 +0000 Michelle Conner http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/getting-your-degree-online-is-easier-than-ever-with-new-technology/ Online school, once an uncommon way to get a college degree, is now becoming a mainstay of higher education. It has become such an ordinary way for students to go to school or supplement their on-campus experience that about one-quarter of students are now taking at least one class in an online format. As the popularity for distance classes increase, enrollment at online schools has increased greatly.

Besides the ability to have more choices and not only in the instructors they have available to them, students who learn at a distance also have more choices in classes that are online than ever before. Freedom is offered to students who work and who must take classes in their free time after work or who want to supplement what they are taking on campus. Discussion boards can be accessed at the student’s convenience, rather than having to meet at a particular time on a particular day, and it’s generally more economical than on campus classroom learning.

Colleges recognize that online classes are driven in large part by the technology that is available. That’s why online schools move quickly to incorporate the newest technology for their students. The end goal is to continue offering more freedom to online students, and one of the newest ways to do that is through mobility technology that is available on smart phones or digital music players. A student now has the ability to get classroom information while not necessarily being connected to the Internet. If you need more information about Online Databases Degrees, look on the internet.

Since flexibility and freedom have always been very important facets for online students, new technologies that allow even more are quickly accepted and adopted. Where students always needed a PC or a laptop to access certain information for their online classrooms, they can now be even more mobile than ever. Classroom lectures can now be watched wherever a student is. The need for a wireless or Internet signal is no longer always a necessity to keep up with lecture material.

Like MP3 audio recordings, the new MP4 video compression files can be downloaded onto their smart phones or digital music players. MP4 video compression, which is also known as MPEG-4, is an offshoot of the MP3 audio recordings that are commonly downloaded through online programs like Apple’s iTunes. Students can now retrieve information that they formerly could only get through their laptop or desktop computers.

This digital library will likely be developed by the university or college the student attends. The student will be able to peruse the files that the library has on their server, and download the appropriate lecture onto their computer. From there, it’s a click of the mouse to transfer the files onto their portable device, like a Droid, Blackberry, or iPhone. Since streaming an hour-long video on a wireless signal is impractical, the ability to download the information onto a portable device is an option that beautifully solves the problems associated with wireless streaming.

Distance students can now add a new moniker: mobility student. More than a billion smart phones are manufactured each year and this vast number of units creates a set of possibilities that were unthinkable even a few years ago. Across the world, the number of people who own a smart phone is far greater than the number of people who own or have access to a computer. This dynamic alone sets a scenario in which the opportunity for the education of a large number of people is possible, people who previously would never have had that type of educational access. There is an abundance of information about Online Tech Project Management Degrees on the web.

Colleges and universities have been hit hard by the recession of the last few years. They have seen income from grant and loan programs and foundation contributions shrivel as the economy continues to suffer. Innovations like MP4 lectures have the potential to help educational institutions offer classes to a wider pool of students without cutting back even more on other programs. More and more schools are jumping on the MP4 bandwagon, with video libraries being developed in colleges in Pennsylvania, Louisiana, Indian, and California. It probably won’t be long before the technology is available from coast to coast and nation to nation.

Where online college fits into your life is – everywhere and anywhere. Those who plan on moving onto management positions will find online technology management degree will propel them into the fields they find fascinating and accelerate their pace of entry.

Students Taking Online Classes Benefit From Less Distractions http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/students-taking-online-classes-benefit-from-less-distractions/ http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/students-taking-online-classes-benefit-from-less-distractions/#comments Mon, 28 Jun 2010 12:15:45 +0000 Michelle Conner http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/students-taking-online-classes-benefit-from-less-distractions/ online degree education by learning at their own steady pace. By cutting out a lot of the "busy-work" that drives the standard classroom, schools online open the door to knowledge and let their students walk right in!]]> Online college is definitely made for quick learners. Motivated and determined individuals are able to excel in course online by learning at their own steady pace. By cutting out a lot of the “busy-work” that drives the standard classroom, schools online open the door to knowledge and let their students walk right in!

Due to the pace of some classes, some students may become bored or unmotivated. Students learn at various different speeds, yet most schools teach their subjects as if everyone is the same. Online college, on the other hand, lets the student decide what pace works best for his or her study methods. By finding what works best for them, students working towards an online degree will learn more effectively and understand their material better.

When learning is optimized by a completely independent structure and schedule created by the student, knowledge can be attained faster and more efficiently. By cutting out the classic classroom environment and its distractions, these schools leave students responsible for their own work and achievement. With the right attitude and drive toward their on line degrees, pupils at online colleges can learn every bit as much as students in a traditional classroom and not be forced to adjust their daily lives.

Schools offering learning from a distance are quite aware of the day-to-day hassles that get in the way of pursuing a higher education. That is why online colleges don’t force their students into abiding by a preset schedule. Students are encouraged to continue their necessary activities at the times required and fit in their studies at the time that best suit their needs. That way, financial difficulties, travel itineraries, and even social arrangements, which might only interfere with a student’s overall learning ability, are completely avoided!

Also consider the amount of time many students waste simply commuting to class each day. In some cases, students will travel an hour out of their way simply to sit in a classroom for forty-five minutes! All that time on the road is time that could be spent learning from home while pursuing an online degree. Not only would one be more comfortable at home, but the stresses of traffic and high gas prices could be taken completely out of the equation.

Yet another benefit of online college, though often forgotten, comes simply in the form of convenience and comfort. Students underestimate how crucial a relaxing learning environment can be to the entire learning process. Most classrooms are filled with hard metal chairs built to fit as many as possible into one cramped room. Such chairs are built for the university’s benefit, not for the benefit of the students. However, if one is seeking an online degree, he or she has the luxury of finding a quiet area to settle into, one that provides optimum comfort while studying.

Furthermore, average classrooms have a way of adding many unnecessary distractions that could easily be avoided if a student learned form home. Tapping pencils, coughing neighbors, or even a wobbly desk has a way of interfering with the learning process of students. With online classes, students can minimize the amount of distractions by learning in their own controlled environment. By setting up a quiet area where one can study properly, students are inclined to learn far more than they would if they were placed in a noisy classroom.

Ideally, online college is meant for the motivated individual. Students who find themselves wishing they could just skip the nonsense that plagues most classrooms would likely do well to consider an online degree. The benefits of working at a steady pace from home can, for many, far outweigh the positive aspects of attending a traditional classroom.

Business MBA Degree Is The Most Popular Among Students http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/business-mba-degree-is-the-most-popular-among-students/ http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/business-mba-degree-is-the-most-popular-among-students/#comments Sun, 27 Jun 2010 12:02:56 +0000 Natasha Bright http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/business-mba-degree-is-the-most-popular-among-students/ Since only last year, enrollment at online colleges and school has jumped nearly 17%. Today, there are five million students who are working on continuing their education in an online format. Students who are participating in online colleges and schools come from a wide variety of backgrounds, with a wide variety of experience and education.

While many may be puzzled by this explosion of interest in online education, people who are participating can articulate a number of reasons for wanting to attend an online class. Probably the most common theme is the flexibility of online schooling. The ability to study and turn in work on your own schedule is one that many students cite. Additionally, the price of your online course may be a great factor, as well as the increased understanding by employers of the high-quality of education that can be attained with an online degree.

There are many different kinds of people who are going to online schools. Some people may be seeking on online degree because of the bad economy; if they have been laid off, they want to increase the skills that they already have, or complete a degree program to make them more marketable. Working parents are also playing a big role in the increase of enrollment. Since they essentially already have two jobs, the only time they may be able to fit in coursework is at night when the house is quiet. Students at regular colleges may also be taking online courses as a way to get the classes they need to complete their degree program more quickly.

Although there is a great diversity in the types of programs offered at online colleges, the most popular online degree program is the MBA. Following the MBA, the next top two degree programs are those in psychology and nursing. Rounding out the top ten programs in popularity are human services, accounting, health administration, counseling, early childhood education, religion, and criminal justice.

There are many reasons why the MBA program is the most sought after degree. Most MBA candidates are already working in the business world, putting in 40 or more hours a week. Going to school during the day isn’t an option, so the convenience of an online degree makes it easier for people already in business to get their MBAs.

Most MBA programs are similar in their curriculum requirements. They require their students to complete a large amount of dense reading, like corporate case studies. Being able to create a flexible reading schedule for such a large amount of reading can be one of the most attractive features of your online degree.

Once all of this heavy reading is completed, it needs to be discussed by students to disseminate the information. This is largely done in online forums like discussion boards, chat rooms, or e-mail. MBA students and professors alike benefit from the technology that is used to complete the coursework, because it may create a better classroom environment than a traditional lecture hall that has a large number of students who won’t participate.

Other online colleges require a two-week in class period, followed by a completion of the rest of the coursework online with set deadlines for various assignments. The majority of online MBA candidates recognize that getting their online business degree may be the best way for them to balance their required responsibilities.

Online Prep Course For GMAT Increases Chances Of Success! http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/online-prep-course-for-gmat-increases-chances-of-success/ http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/online-prep-course-for-gmat-increases-chances-of-success/#comments Sun, 27 Jun 2010 11:49:41 +0000 Michelle Conner http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/online-prep-course-for-gmat-increases-chances-of-success/ In the business world, timing may not be everything, but it matters. After all, no matter how good a report is, it still must also be on time. This is a lesson that can also be applied when one is making moves towards getting their MBA.

One area where timing is almost as important as what you know is with the GMAT. Anyone who does well on this evaluation exam will have their pick of top flight business schools and programs at their beck and call. If they don’t do well, they might not gain access to any post-grad schools at all. If you need more information about online classes, look on the internet.

Most MBA candidates prepare for the GMAT through online classes. This is a good way to do it as the exam itself is automated, and can give the student a more real time experience. One can schedule their classes around their work schedule and never miss a day until it’s time to take the exam. There are still dozens of these online courses, and picking the right one should be considered carefully.

Yet there’s another lesser known aspect of the test that usually goes unmentioned, but is another strong reason to consider prepping online. Each portion of the GMAT has a time limit. All three segments of the exam must be completed within them. If not, the unanswered questions are counted against one’s total score.

The math in this situation is pretty clear cut. The cold equations are for each question left unanswered, one’s score is reduced by 3%. Leave as few as five questions blank, and one is already working from a 15% deficit. In other words, the best one can hope to get is in the top 85%…and that is only if one answers all the other problems correctly. Top flight post-grad programs prefer their applicants in the 90% bracket or better.

As such, when looking for a prep program, it would be a solid idea that the drills and simulations include a stop watch or other kind of timing app. The idea is to develop a way of timing one’s self so one can get to the last question with time to spare. It will also drill you so you learn to have plenty of such things as scratch paper, pens and other things allowed and not dwell to long on one question. There is an abundance of information about business degree program on the web.

True, this could lead to one particularly glaring criticism of the GMAT, i.e., it’s better to put an answer down-even a wrong one-than no answer at all. At the same time, the best way to answer a real mind bending question is to eliminate the obviously wrong ones and then take an “educated guess” at what remains. It may not give the right answer, but it increases the odds of hitting it.

One could also argue that this is the way things actually work in the business world, that it’s really making the most intelligent guess. by preparing with online school for an educated guess given any circumstance. Thus maybe the GMAT tests for one’sonline degree in busness.

Online School Can Help People With GED’s Further Their Education! http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/online-school-can-help-people-with-geds-further-their-education/ http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/online-school-can-help-people-with-geds-further-their-education/#comments Sun, 27 Jun 2010 10:53:08 +0000 Michelle Conner http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/online-school-can-help-people-with-geds-further-their-education/ Many high school students find that completing the coursework to get their diploma is not a viable option. They may instead elect to take the GED (General Education) certificate, which is an equivalency test in language arts, science, math, social studies, and writing. Although students who take the GED do not finish high school, many of them want to continue their education.

In the past, GED students were expected to join the work force once they completed their certificate, and that would have been the end of it. Most colleges did not seek or accept GED students as viable candidates for college. However, most colleges not only accept, but welcome GED students as applicants, because it is now widely recognized that non-traditional students are ready to continue on with their post secondary education.

Today another exciting venue is available for GED students to continue their education. With the development of the Internet, online schools and colleges have created a treasure trove of opportunity for students. If a GED student wants to pursue an online degree, there are many programs available at online schools for two or four-year degrees, or certificates in a large array of technical fields. Be sure to read more about online course.

Schools online have programs in hundreds of different areas for GED students. Often these students have already entered the work force, so they need flexibility in their class schedules. Online degree programs offer just that for busy working people. Rather than having to take precious time away from work in order to attend a class on campus, a working student can simply enroll in an online college and complete the coursework in the comfort of their own home, on a schedule that is convenient to them.

An online college will offer much more to a GED student than coursework in general education classes. If a student wants to take a certification course in a particular field to increase their viability on the job, many online schools have those programs available. Many online colleges offer technical degrees, as well. This is ideal for students who want to increase their knowledge and perhaps move into a completely different career field. A technical degree is usually very career oriented, offering training for a specific job, such as nursing. Don’t stop reading here! There is more to learn about college courses online.

Many online schools offer associates degrees, which are two year degrees in a wide range of fields. An associate degree may be in a technical field, an academic field, or a professional field. By achieving a two-year online degree, GED students open up the door to even higher levels of education. If they so choose, they can go from there into a traditional four-year university, or they may choose to continue with their education at an online college, completing a bachelors or masters degree, or even a PhD.

Many distance colleges offer four year degrees in nearly every career field available. From business to criminal justice, law or education, an online degree can be the pathway for students to attain higher earning potential and greater job satisfaction. Also, there may be many instances in which a working student who is attending online college can apply what they are learning to their present job. This may lead to recognition by employers and the possibility of promotion or pay raises.

A GED student may have been relegated to working in a job that didn’t have much chance for advancement. Today, however, online college officials are eager to help these students move on in their education. A degree colleges online may be the best way for a working student to advance.

Education Online A Great Way To Keep Up With Your Hobbies http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/education-online-a-great-way-to-keep-up-with-your-hobbies/ http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/education-online-a-great-way-to-keep-up-with-your-hobbies/#comments Sat, 26 Jun 2010 14:25:11 +0000 Michelle Conner http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/education-online-a-great-way-to-keep-up-with-your-hobbies/ When students are in high school, they are highly encouraged to partake of extracurricular activities. Not only will it help them develop skills and talents at an early age, but it may even affect their future. That’s because having extracurricular activities is an important part of the college application process.

There are students who have been involved in outside activities for years; some may have over a decade of experience. They have likely developed such a love for their outside activity that they want to pursue it even when they go away to college. They might find out that their busy college schedule doesn’t allow them time to be active in their favorite activity any more. A tough schedule, lack of transportation, or too much homework might make it impossible.

Of course, there is the possibility that some students figure out a way to blend their hobby with their education. Someone who has been involved in athletic pursuits for many years might decide to get their degree in athletic instruction or sports physiology. But that may not be the case for students who want their hobbies and educational pursuits to be separate.

It might be difficult for some students to realize that going to a traditional university may mean that they have to put aside their lifelong hobby. These students may want to think about attending college classes online to get their degree. An online degree program may offer just the flexibility these students need. Not only can they attain their undergraduate degree, but they can still pursue their passion, too, because students can schedule class and lecture time on their own schedule.

A regular degree program wouldn’t work for someone whose outside hobby requires traveling a lot. However, an online degree can offer the freedom to someone whose hobby involves traveling. Getting to a tournament or conference isn’t a problem; they just need to remember to bring their laptop with them so they can complete their assignments while at the faraway activity. All they need is an Internet connection.

Other students have different scheduling needs. Artists often must work when the creative impulse strikes them; there is no telling when that may be. It might be seeing the light reflecting off the water in a certain way, or the verse of a song that strikes you. You don’t need to worry about putting your artistic work aside when you feel the need to create with an online college. Complete your online course work when you’re ready, on your schedule. The flexibility may even make you more creative.

If volunteering has been a student’s passion for years, they can still participate in their organization’s activities while pursuing an online degree. In fact, being able to volunteer on a regular basis, combined with completing their distance education degree, may create a situation that offers even more opportunity than before. They may be able to turn their acumen at volunteering into a wonderful job with a non-profit organization after they graduate.

For college students balance might sometimes be difficult to find. With an online degree, you can find the balance between your classes and your outside interests. Who knows, you may even discover a way to blend the two so that once you graduate with your online degree, you can turn your passion for your outside activity into the job you’ve always wanted.

Veterans Benefit From The New GI Bill http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/veterans-benefit-from-the-new-gi-bill/ http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/veterans-benefit-from-the-new-gi-bill/#comments Sat, 26 Jun 2010 12:44:04 +0000 Natasha Bright http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/veterans-benefit-from-the-new-gi-bill/ course online to further their education and improve their job advancements, in or out of the service.]]> The New GI Bill for military members has recently been put into place for veterans and active duty service members so they can continue their educations. Many veterans are returning from long deployments overseas, and more veterans than ever are deciding to go back to school once they have finished their military service. Even if they decide to stay in the military and continue their career there, service members can use new gi bill to further their education and improve their job advancements, in or out of the service.

The New GI Bill offers returning military members an excellent opportunity to go to school to further their education, whether they already have a college degree or not. Going back to school may be a good way for vets to begin to transition back to civilian life. By enrolling in college, whether in an online school or a traditional school, a veteran can begin to see the wide array of choices that will be available to them.

The men and women of our armed forces have made tremendous sacrifices both at home and abroad since 9/11. That is why Congress has implemented a new version of the New GI Bill that covers many more expenses than it used to. The New GI Bill rewards service members with benefits that include tuition, fees, books, and in some cases, even a housing allowance.

Colleges across the nation have also recognized that military service members not only deserve recognition, but help, so they can ease into their education with little stress. That is the reason for many new programs that offer to help military students get the most out of their education. Since the needs of military students often differ from regular college students, colleges have programs in place like special orientations, tutoring, counseling, and job placement services that are all designed for the military students’ needs.

Sometimes, even with years of work experience behind them in the military, trying to choose what path to follow after their service ends can be a challenge. There are so many choices that need to be made, from what kind of degree to seek, to what kind of school to attend. Some veterans may already have graduated from college and want to get a Masters or PhD in a specialty field.

Whatever work venue interests them, they will have help along the way to make those difficult decisions. Many companies now have programs in place that are geared toward helping military members choose a career path in the civilian world. Some companies are now allowing the use of online course to pay for specific training programs that will benefit not only their business, but the veterans as well.

One example of this is software companies that will now offer certification exams in certain technology fields to be paid for using the GI Bill. One such technology sector that has continued to explode is the networking sector. As the world economies become more and more global, networking is a vital component to that global growth. Veterans who are interested in this type of work may well be able to find a job very easily once they have passed their certification exams. In addition to the IT field, some other types of industries are now allowing the GI Bill to cover the cost of an apprenticeship in qualified trades, like a commercial truck driver.

Veterans bring to the table inherent leadership, a certain maturity, and a generally excellent work ethic. All of these attributes, combined with a new online college degree or technical certificate, will help deserving veterans find a great job in the civilian sector, aided by the benefits offered in the new GI Bill.

An Abundance Of Information About Financing For College On The Internet! http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/an-abundance-of-information-about-financing-for-college-on-the-internet/ http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/an-abundance-of-information-about-financing-for-college-on-the-internet/#comments Wed, 23 Jun 2010 11:03:30 +0000 Michelle Conner http://onlineeducationplace.com/online-education/an-abundance-of-information-about-financing-for-college-on-the-internet/ The economy has taken a toll on nearly everything we do, from eating out to paying the mortgage. Higher education can be included in that list of things. Today, it’s more expensive than ever to improve your life with a college degree.

The trend of ever-increasing tuition bills doesn’t seem to be abating anytime soon. Getting together enough money to pay for books, fees, and tuition is an open-ended question that doesn’t have any easy answers. Even the old standby of grants, scholarships, and student loans is getting more and more tenuous. If you need more information about federal grants, look on the internet.

It’s not only the general public that is getting hit in the pocketbook. Colleges and universities are struggling with cuts from the educational funds, alumni programs, and government assistance packages that they formerly relied on. Even large endowments at some universities are taking a tremendous hit because of the roller-coaster action of the stock market in the last few years.

It used to be that many colleges offered a “no-loan” program to students who qualified for financial aid. Today, that’s no longer true. Many schools are now backtracking on that promise to students, forcing them to take out expensive loans to pay for their education. This means that middle class families who once relied on federal aid to help pay for college are now left with the bill themselves, because schools can now only help the students who need financial aid the most.

This doesn’t mean there is no hope for students, though. Schools and government agencies are working hard to figure out ways to help students who need help. The federal government recently decided to increase the amount of money that is available to students who receive the Pell Grant. There are also new tax credits available for working parents. Schools are working to change the way they administer some scholarships. For instance, some scholarships that were previously academically based have been switched to income-based programs. Other colleges are working to try to increase the availability of scholarships to help make up the shortfall for students who need help.

Another possibility for students and their families is to take out a loan, even though that means you may be paying on the bill for years after graduation. There are different types of loans available. The most traditional type of loan is a student loan, which the student takes out themselves. Examples of these are loans like the Stafford or Perkins loans. Parents, too, can take out loans on behalf of their children. These loans are called Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (PLUS loans). They have not proved to be as popular as other programs, though, because the interest rate in usually higher. There is an abundance of information about government grants on the web.

There are things a student can do to make sure they get the most help that is available to them. By making sure that every application for student aid is filled out and submitted before the deadline period is over, a student increases their chances. Colleges are becoming stricter when looking at applications. Late applications will likely not be considered. Wait listed and international students may also be out of consideration for aid packages, as schools continue to tighten their belts.

Looking for schools that have lower tuition may mean less expense, even if it doesn’t offer a scholarship package. You may even be enrolled in an online class that uses the same professor and curriculum as on campus, but costs less because it’s online.

There’s only one thing they didn’t count on when they began their Associates or Bachelors, and that’s the state of the employment market. Make sure you look into a online course.

Of course, there is one problem. Thanks to the current economy, one can’t just mail out a resume and expect the job offers to come pouring in. Quite the contrary, with an incredible number of experienced people out there also fighting for your job, you have to start thinking outside of the box.

The job website Monster.com has come up with an interesting list of ways to improve one’s employment odds. Look them over and put them to use. They certainly beat a long, hot summer cooling one’s heels.

Think Horizontally – Just because you have a degree in nursing means you should look for a job in a doctor’s office or hospital. School, cruise lines, law enforcement agencies and more also employ nurses. Get on Google and do some research. Also make contact with the local division of your professional society. Doing so can as much as quadruple the potential number of companies you could work at. Another thing that helps is a online college.

Do Some Research On The Company – While your resume should be pretty set, by doing some research on your target company you can make your cover letter conform to what your targeted company is interested in. Highlight whatever parts of your education, experience or other assets you have that will make you attractive to a recruiter, even if it meant you were a counselor at a summer camp. That shows you know how to handle kids.

Network – A good example is a young lady studying architecture. Not only does one of her cousins happen to be an HVAC architect, but her mother works in a green construction firm. She started twisting her family’s arms for contacts as soon as she passed her freshmen year and has already wrangled a paying internship for herself. Now entering her junior year, she has put together a small rolodex of contacts, with whom she keeps in touch. One gets the impression she’ll have her choice of jobs in two years because of her networking today.

Keep A Positive Attitude – Everyone knows we’re in a recession, just never get a negative attitude because of it. If the news is depressing, turn off the TV and work on some introductory letters and resumes. Believe it when we say a recruiter can sense a negative attitude before you walk through the door, and that’s a major strike against you. Companies always desire an upbeat disposition whenever possible, and will hire accordingly.

Stay Busy At All Costs – Companies don’t like people who are idle. They would love to see people working on an online degree. While you’re under-employed go out and work on a public cause. Get a part time job to pay the bills. Be productive, because that’s what recruiters want. Get more information about online education.
